For those of you who didn't pick up your checks at the arena, we'll be mailing them out this Wednesday, July 29.
If you vetted out your horse, we will mail your refund on Monday, August 2. Please note that we require a letter from your vet with your horse's name in order to process the refund.

Finishers in the top 5 in each Open division will receive the awards reserved for those spots (1st: buckle; 2nd: engraved stirrups; 3rd: breast collar; 4th: embroidered sheet; 5th: engraved saddle pads). 6th through 20th place finishers will receive a logoed tote bag.

The Jud Little Ranch Barrel Safari, produced by PacWest Barrel Racing, will occur at the Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, OK from Wednesday, July 22 to Sunday, July 26, 2009. The five days of barrel racing feature:
· Free clinics with prominent barrel racing trainers;
· A “Welcome to the Jungle” jackpot race on Wednesday;
· The “Wild Kingdom” warm-up race on Friday;
· The 5-session Barrel Safari Open with a minimum of $50,000 in cash and prizes awarded on Sunday ($57,500 and 5D with 1000 total entries; $65,000 and 6D with 1500 total entries);
· The Explorers’ Dinner/Party on Saturday night;
· Pro and Jockey Slot Races on Friday; and
· A $2000-added Futurity on Saturday and Sunday.
A summary of the weekend can be viewed on the race flyer. Racers should pre-enter by Friday, July 10 to avoid a late entry fee and avoid waiting in line to enter at the arena. Online registration is available online through pacwest.fastenter.com. Alternatively, registration by mail or fax is available by downloading the entry form.
This race is open to everybody. For those who are PacWest members, 50% discounts are offered on processing and late fees and five $500 bonus cash prizes will be awarded to those who enter the Barrel Safari Open; you can join by mailing or faxing in the membership form (available at pacwestgrasslands.com) or by joining up at the arena.

Timed-Run Clinic: Wednesday, July 22; 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Come out to the Hardy Murphy Coliseum early and work with Ryanne Pedone and Charlotte Cunningham as they provide you tips and pointers while you make free timed runs at the arena. You must pre-register for this event; just send an e-mail to rock1@3drum.com to save your place. We’ll post your scheduled time slot on our web site (pacwestgrasslands.com) and at the arena.

“Welcome to the Jungle” Race: Wednesday, July 22; 6:00 PM
This race will feature $500 added with a $35 entry fee. In addition to the Open, the following incentive classes (at $25/each) are provided:
· Youth: 18 years old or less as of the day of the race;
· Adult: 19 to 44 years old as of the day of the race; and
· Masters: 45 years old or more as of the day of the race and
· Amateur: No Open 1D winnings and less than $1000 in 2D winnings from ALL barrel races entered in the prior year.
This race will have no dress code.

Barrel Safari Open
· Session 1: Thursday, July 23; 6:00 PM
· Session 2: Friday, July 24; 9:00 AM
· Session 3: Saturday, July 25; After Futurity Go 1 (Approx 9:30 AM)
· Session 4: Saturday, July 25; 6:00 PM
· Session 5: Sunday, July 26; 8:00 After Futurity Go 2 (Approx 9:30 AM)
The Barrel Safari Open is a 5-session race with one big payout on Sunday. A minimum of $50,000 in cash and prizes (4D) is guaranteed for this race. With 1000 total entries, $57,500 and 5D is guaranteed. With 1500 total entries, $65,000 and 6D. A rider/horse combination may be entered in as many sessions (up to 5) as desired. Riders will have one result for each session they enter. Enter all 5 sessions, and you’ll have 5 results!
The Barrel Safari Open offers a fixed payout which is printed on the race flyer. The top 20 finishers in each division will receive a cash payout (starting at $4000 for the 1D winner, $3000 for the 2, 3, and 4D winners, and $2000 for the 5 and 6D winners) and awards. Awards for each division are as follows:
1st: Buckle
2nd: Engraved Stirrups
3rd: Beaded Breast Collar
4th: Embroidered Turnout Sheet
5th: Saddle Pad
6th – 20th: Various pick-a-prize awards
Because this race has one payout with 5 sessions, many riders will have multiple results with the potential for a payout for each. For example, if a rider finishes 89th in the 1D, 2nd in the 2D, and 13th in the 2D from the three sessions they enter, he or she will receive a $2000 check from the 2nd place 2D finish and $150 from the 13th place 2D finish.
In addition to the Open, the following incentive classes (at $25/each) are provided as part of the Barrel Safari Open:
· Youth: 18 years old or less as of the day of the race;
· Adult: 19 to 44 years old as of the day of the race; and
· Masters: 45 years old or more as of the day of the race and
· Amateur: No Open 1D winnings and less than $1000 in 2D winnings from ALL barrel races entered in the prior year.
· Disco Entry: This incentive will award 4 entries (one per division) at the Disco Barrel Bash Open where Living Quarter Trailers will be given to the winner of each division: Alvarado, TX, 10/7 – 10/11, 2009.
The dress code for all sessions in this race is collared shirt, western hat or helmet, and riding boots.
Futurity Horse Exhibitions: Friday, July 24; 7:00 – 8:00 AM
These exhibitions are limited to those riders who are entered in the Futurity.
Pro Slot Race: Friday, July 24; 5:00 PM
Jockey Slot Race; Friday, July 24; After Pro Slot Race
The Pro and Jockey Slot Races allow riders to compete against their peers head-to-head with an 88% payout—just one division! The Pro Slot Race is open to all riders who are at the top of their game; there’s no eligibility or restrictions. The Jockey Slot Race is for riders at the next level: those with total Open 1D and Futurity 1D winnings of less than $2000 for the 365 preceding the day they enter AND own the horse they’re riding. Each race is limited to 50 entries. The dress code for these races is a collared shirt, western hat or helmet, and riding boots. Additional information for these slot races is posted on the website (pacwestgrasslands.com).
“Wild Kingdom” Warm-up Race: After Pro and Jockey Slot Races (Approx 6:30 PM)
This race will feature $500 added with a $35 entry fee. In addition to the Open, the following incentive classes (at $25/each) are provided:
· Youth: 18 years old or less as of the day of the race;
· Adult: 19 to 44 years old as of the day of the race; and
· Masters: 45 years old or more as of the day of the race and
· Amateur: No Open 1D winnings and less than $1000 in 2D winnings from ALL barrel races entered in the prior year.
This race will have no dress code.
Safari Grasslands 2D Futurity
· Go 1: Saturday, 7/25; 8:00 AM
· Go 2: Sunday, 7/26; 8:00 AM
The Safari Grasslands Futurity features $2000 in added money with a $150 entry fee for both go’s. This is a 2D race with a 1 second split. The race pays out 30% on Saturday, 30% for the Sunday go, and 40% to the average winners. Registration papers or vet certificates (verifying age) must accompany each entry. Horses must be foal of 2004 or later with no timed barrel race results prior to December 1, 2008. Please note that futurity horses will be verified on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM between the stall and show offices in the coliseum.
Explorers’ Dinner/Party: Saturday, July 27; 7:00 PM
Come and join us for an evening of food, drink, and fun on Saturday evening. We’ll have a buffet dinner laid out with karaoke to follow. Tickets for adults are $15; children (12 and under) are $7.50.
Checking in at the Hardy Murphy Coliseum
The Hardy Murphy Coliseum is located at 600 Lake Murray Drive, Ardmore, OK 73402.
If you have NOT pre-entered, go to the PacWest Show Office in the coliseum where you’ll enter up and, if appropriate, book your stall(s) and RV spot. If you are booking a stall(s) or RV spot, we’ll give you a form to take to the Stall Office where you’ll get your assigned places. Please note that the coliseum does NOT allow outside shavings and you must purchase a minimum of one bag of shavings per stall.
If you have pre-entered and have reserved a stall(s) or RV spot, you can go directly to the Stall Office and get your assigned places. There’s no need to check in with the PacWest Show Office unless your name is listed on the “See Office” list which will be posted at the arena and on the website (pacwestgrasslands.com).

For those of you who don’t want to “rough it,” there are a number of lodging options near Ardmore. The list below identifies sample properties and quoted online booking rates as of July 7:

Miscellaneous
· Absolutely NO outside alcohol permitted inside ANY part of Hardy Murphy Coliseum complex.
· Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
· If renting a stall, you MUST purchase shavings from the arena. All horses must be in rented stalls overnight unless stalls are sold out.
· PacWest member receive a 50% discount on processing and late fees at all races. To join, download the membership form at pacwestgrasslands.com.
· Dress code is collared shirt, western hat or helmet, and riding boots except for the Wednesday and Friday night warm-up races.
· All incentive races paid after each session. “Disco Entry” incentive will award 4 free sessions (one per division) at the Disco Barrel Bash Open where Living Quarter Trailers will be given to the winner of each division: Alvarado, TX, 10/7 – 10/11, 2009.
· With the exception of the Slot Races and the Futurity, all races are limited to 400 entries.
· A horse can be entered in a race/session only once; no sharing.
· No scratches from the Futurity or either slot race; substitutions are allowed for $35.
· Once a horse has entered the competition arena, forward movement is required. No circling!
· PacWest will determine eligibility for a rerun and also determine where in the draw any granted rerun will occur.
· Winners of the $500 Cash Bonuses must be PacWest members and must be entered in the Barrel Safari session for which the prize is being paid. Winners will be determined by a random draw and announced after each session.
· Exhibition runs are $5 each; pick up tickets from the office.
